Innovation at Jan De Nul

video interview

Get to know some participants of the Innovation Challenge and their view on innovation.

In our drive to find new engineering solutions, we organize a yearly Innovation Challenge within Jan De Nul Group. Colleagues from all departments are invited to work on their favourite innovation topic. By connecting colleagues with different ideas, perspectives and approaches, amazing new concepts pop up. At Jan De Nul Group, we don’t just think and imagine, we also act. The winning teams are supported by in-house experts to further develop their ideas.

“Innovating is about shaping our future.”

Jef Monballieu
Chairman of the Blue Cluster steering committee

"If we share our knowledge, the entire sector benefits."

"Our sustainable and innovative solutions create value for our clients and society. The Blue Cluster regularly organises workshops on particular topics with business and academic experts.

The combined and complimentary strengths of the participants set up collaborations for specific innovation projects. An example is the research on floating solar panels at sea, which can double the energy output of the wind farm area. A few years ago, this started as an idea in a workshop. Today, the scale model is being tested in a wave laboratory and soon in a wind tunnel as well. We hope to install the pilot project off the coast of Ostend soon."

The power to innovate lies in sharing expertise and experience, within Jan De Nul Group and beyond. We are a founding member of The Blue Cluster, a Belgian federation that connects a total of 200 entrepreneurs, researchers and policy makers. Together we design sustainable business models, set up creative partnerships and develop ground-breaking technology within the blue economy.
