Everyone feels at home at the Orsi Academy. It is cozy, and the acoustics make it very pleasant to work there. The building’s innovative style enhances the activities that take place inside.
The interior design allows us to easily adapt spaces. For example, the ceiling is constructed in the same way everywhere, so that we can easily lay new wires. Moreover, we are energy-neutral: heat pumps and solar panels regulate the heating or cooling. As a result, there was no need for a connection to the gas network.
Jan De Nul Group made sure that everything was carried out correctly, down to the smallest detail. The building is an architectural masterpiece. Both universities and architects regularly ask to visit our centre.

We were responsible for the general coordination of the
construction of the Orsi Academy: from the first spade
stitch to the last stroke of paint. Due to the limited
execution time, planning was crucial. Annually, some 3,500
surgeons will be able to find their way to this high-tech
knowledge and innovation centre to learn to work with the
very latest techniques.

In Charleroi, Jan De Nul Group is building the Grand Hôpital: a new hospital that will merge five existing hospitals into one large building. The location is the site of Viviers, an old coal mine in the northeast of Charleroi. With a capacity of 900 beds, this hospital ‘of the new generation’ will be one of the largest in Belgium.

AZ Groeninge also called on our expertise for the complete interior finishing and construction of the underground car park. This stunning example of innovative building and modern architecture merges four branches of the hospital into one large building. AZ Groeninge can now confidently provide the best care for its patients.

In Kortrijk, we completed the closed building shell of the second phase of the AZ Groeninge in record time. We built more than 80,000 m² in barely 18 months. Since the first construction phase was already in use, we made every effort in the organisation and logistics on site to limit the inconvenience to patients and visitors.
We implemented a whole range of innovative structural building techniques. We installed specially designed modular load-bearing facade elements, we implemented post-stressed concrete for more than 71,000 m² floor slabs and we embedded techniques and ducts in the concrete structure.

Parallel to the indoor finishing works, we built the underground car park for AZ Groeninge. In less than 16 months we realized the building that offers underground parking space for 1,800 cars, and 600 cars aboveground.
Together with our partners, we were responsible for the complete indoor finishing of the new-build hospital.
